Second seed and home hope Stanislas Wawrinka stormed into the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open with a straight-sets victory over Australian qualifier Peter Luczak.

World number 16 Wawrinka set up a tie with Spanish eighth seed Marcel Granollers after seeing off Luczak 6-3 7-5.

Fernando Verdasco of Spain cruised into the quarter-finals, recording a straightforward 6-3 6-2 victory over Portugal’s Federico Gil.

Verdasco will meet France’s Julien Benneteau in the next round after he defeated Matthias Bachinger 6-4 6-4 while Feliciano Lopez also progressed after beating Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3 6-4 in an all-Spanish second round tie.
