Stosur plans fast start at US Open
Tennis News August 27th. 2011, 6:51pmSamantha Stosur has vowed to put Swede Sofia Arvidsson on the back foot from the opening points of their US Open first-round match next week.
The Australian allowed Gisela Dulko and Melinda Czink too much latitude in her respective losses to them at the French Open and Wimbledon this year.
“You have to be wary of that because if players get confident at the start of the match, sometimes it is hard to stop them,” Stosur said.
The Queenslander won her most recent meeting against Arvidsson in 2009 on hardcourt in Miami, leading a set and 2-0 when the Scandinavian retired.
“I have to play quite aggressive and get her moving and open up the court and exploit the fact that she does not have a huge weapon,” Stosur said.
“If I play aggressive and take the ball early then hopefully that gives her less time to step up.”
