Giroux’s OT goal spoils Boudreau’s debut as Flyers top Ducks

Bruce Boudreau’s Ducks lost his first game as coach, as the Flyers overcame a 3-0 deficit, winning on Claude Giroux’s power-play goal in overtime.

The new coach also saw exactly why this job opened up two days ago.

Claude Giroux scored 3:29 into overtime and the Philadelphia Flyers rallied from a three-goal deficit for a 4-3 victory Friday night over the Ducks, who surged ahead and then spectacularly fell apart in Boudreau’s debut.

The Ducks’ 17th loss in 20 games ended with Boudreau’s captain in the penalty box for a four-minute stretch.

McNeese State’s women’s basketball team jumped seven spots from No. 22 to No. 15 in this weeks collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Poll. The Cowgirls produced a 3-0 record since the last poll with WNIT Tournament wins over Manhattan and UAB. The Cowgirls are coming off a 80-59 win over UL-Lafayette Monday night that extended their home winning streak to 16 games dating back to last season. Track. Clemson Track & Field Announces 2010-11 Award Winners

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson track & field program announced its annual awards winners Thursday evening at the team’s banquet at the Clyde V. Madren Center near campus. In 2010-11, the program produced three individual NCAA champions, the indoor and outdoor ACC women’s champions, and three top-25 NCAA team finishes.

Members of the track & field coaching staff and the program’s support staff chose the awards winners. The complete list of winners is below.

Ty McCormack and Kim Ruck were the team MVPs for the 2010 cross country season. Ruck advanced to the NCAA Championships as an individual that fall.

Sampras no idol threat to Milos

TORONTO – Thursday night’s event at the Air Canada Centre was billed as The Faceoff but, for once, it had nothing to do with pucks, the Maple Leafs or the associated heartbreak.

This was mostly just about fun.

Pete Sampras, one of tennis’ most celebrated players, debuted the game at the hockey palace against Canadian Milos Raonic, who some believe sits on the cusp of being equally celebrated some day.

“I just hope I can be competitive. He (Raonic) obviously has a huge serve,” Sampras told a press conference prior to the match.

“I’m not as agile as I used to be and hopefully Milos remembers that I was his idol. That I could be his father,” said Sampras, who retired from the ATP tour in 2003, kidding his superstar-in-training.

Men’s Hockey Battles to Draw Versus St. Norbert

The Falcon men entered Saturday night’s matchup with a 5-0 record behind goaltender Scott Lewan . UWRF defeated St. Norbert by a score of 5-3 on Friday night, and entered the matchup at Hunt Arena with hopes of keeping their unbeaten season alive.

The Falcons would succeed in their effort by scoring five consecutive back to back goals in the third period to overcome a four goal deficit and take the lead.

The first period was characterized by huge hits and energetic play as both teams battled for the puck. Scoring the first goal of the evening was Green Knight Seth Soley at 6:55 in the period. Soley was assisted on his fourth goal of the season by Joe Perry and Cullen Bradshaw.
