Track. Clemson Track & Field Announces 2010-11 Award Winners

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson track & field program announced its annual awards winners Thursday evening at the team’s banquet at the Clyde V. Madren Center near campus. In 2010-11, the program produced three individual NCAA champions, the indoor and outdoor ACC women’s champions, and three top-25 NCAA team finishes.

Members of the track & field coaching staff and the program’s support staff chose the awards winners. The complete list of winners is below.

Ty McCormack and Kim Ruck were the team MVPs for the 2010 cross country season. Ruck advanced to the NCAA Championships as an individual that fall.

Men’s Hockey Battles to Draw Versus St. Norbert

The Falcon men entered Saturday night’s matchup with a 5-0 record behind goaltender Scott Lewan . UWRF defeated St. Norbert by a score of 5-3 on Friday night, and entered the matchup at Hunt Arena with hopes of keeping their unbeaten season alive.

The Falcons would succeed in their effort by scoring five consecutive back to back goals in the third period to overcome a four goal deficit and take the lead.

The first period was characterized by huge hits and energetic play as both teams battled for the puck. Scoring the first goal of the evening was Green Knight Seth Soley at 6:55 in the period. Soley was assisted on his fourth goal of the season by Joe Perry and Cullen Bradshaw.

Sharks rally past Penguins 4-3 in shootout

Ryane Clowe’s shootout goal gave the Sharks their sixth win in the last seven games.

Ryane Clowe scored the lone goal in a shootout and Thomas Greiss stopped all three Pittsburgh attempts as the Sharks overcame a two-goal deficit in the third period to beat the Penguins 4-3 on Thursday night.

“We had no business winning that game after the first period. But we found a way to get back into it,” McLellan said. “It’s two points, but we’ll be discussing our starts. There’s no doubt about that.”

It was San Jose’s eighth straight home win over Pittsburgh. The Penguins earned their first point in San Jose since a 1999 tie but still haven’t won at the Shark Tank since a 5-2 victory Oct.

W. Tennis. Ciolkowski into Singles Quarterfinals at ITA Carolina Regional

CHAPEL HILL, NC – Clemson junior Nelly Ciolkowski won a pair of three-set matches on Saturday at advance to the Quarterfinal round at the 2011 ITA Carolina Regional Singles Championship in Chapel Hill, NC. She is also into the quarters in doubles as well, teaming with sophomore Monika Kochanova with a surprising run. 

Top-ranked and top-seeded Josipa Bek and Keri Wong also earned a spot in the quarters against NC State’s tandem of Joelle Kissell and Ashley Miller after an 8-2 win in the Round of 16 over Alkema and Garcia of Winthrop.
